May 22 2007 at 18:00, Pühavaimu Church, Tallinn

The International Women’s Club of Tallinn organised on May 22, a benefit concert with the Dutch singer Tannie Willemstijn . All the funds raised during this event will support the Vaikemõisa Small Children’s Home in Viljandi.

Tannie WillemstijnThe Dutch soprano Tannie Willemstijn, a mother of 6 children herself, has been willing to help support our charity ever since she heard about it . Tannie has numerous very good friends in Estonia and comes often to Tallinn, where she even owns a home. Like she puts it: “I want to do something back for this country, which has given me so much joy and so much beauty”.

She performed works by, amongst others, the following composers: Modest Moussorgsky, Henry Purcell, Francis Poulenc, Claude Debussy, Riho Pats.

Tannie Willemstijn studied at the conservatories of Rotterdam and The Hague, and finished her studies in 1984. She has been a member of the Dutch Chamber Choir since 1979, but this is only one aspect of her career. Besides singing in the choir, she has been pursuing a career as a soloist. If originally her main interest focused on Baroque Music, which led her to work with renowned conductors like Ton Koopman and Frans Brüggen. Her repertoire has since considerably extended and includes works form Romantic and Contemporary musicians, like the Dutch Louis Andriessen, Steve Reich, Claude Vivier, Shostakovich. Compositors dedicated her some of their works, like the Requiem from the Dutch compositor Bernard van Beurden .

Tannie Willemstijn was accompanied on the piano by Nata-Ly Sakkos.

The International Women’s Club of Tallinn wishes to extend it’s sincerest thanks to Tannie Willemstijn and Nata-Ly Sakkos for this wonderful concert.

Thank you also to all who attended or supported the organisation of this concert.
